Fraud is rampant. Many illegal groups will use the photos of celebrities to cheat on the Internet. Now even the photos of Chen Chien-Jen, the chief executive, have been stolen. They are pretending to send "investment books" for free, in an attempt to trick people into joining LINE friends, and then use fake investments to defraud money. At present, the website has been asked by the Criminal Bureau to stop parsing. According to the statistics of the Police Department, as of 2022, there have been as many as 6600 cases of this type of fraud.
Recently, Chen Chien-Jen, the chief executive, was falsely used by a Humbug to trick people into joining fake LINE friends by presenting free investment books as a gimmick. The Executive Yuan clarified that this is a fake celebrity investment fraud advertising technique, and the Criminal Police Department has taken action to remove it.
The spokesperson for the Executive Yuan, LIN,TZU-LUN, pointed out that "in response to this type of fraudulent advertising, the Criminal Police Department has collaborated with businesses such as Facebook, Google, and YouTube to establish a special area for reporting fraudulent advertising and a delisting mechanism on the 165 National Anti Fraud Official Website, providing a faster and more convenient reporting channel for the public
It is often heard that political and business celebrities have been robbed of their photos. Recently, TSAO,HSING-CHENG, the founder of United Microelectronics Corporation, WANG,WEN-YUAN, the president of Formosa Plastics Group, TSAI,YEN-MING, the chairman of Want Want, CHANG,SHU-FEN, the chairman of
TSMC Charity Foundation, and others have been falsely registered as Facebook fans, attracting people to join the investment group.
According to statistics from the Police Department, there were 29702 cases of fraud last year, of which 6600 cases of investment fraud involving counterfeit celebrities amounted to over 3.4 billion yuan.
Wang, Po-Chi, associate professor of the Department of Criminal Justice of Ming Chuan University, believes that "platform operators may be able to strengthen their mechanisms. For example, when they want to PO some relevant information or parts, they may need to do some real name authentication, as in foreign countries. They can't just like PO."
According to scholars' analysis, Humbug use the Internet to spread quickly, together with celebrity fame, to lure people into being duped, and to cheat people out of money by buying and selling stocks. The victims are concentrated in retirees and young people.
As for how to avoid falling into a fraud trap? Scholars remind us to be vigilant when we see celebrity recommendations, steady profits, and short-term high profits. The Fraud Office of the Executive Yuan stated that the Criminal Police Department has collaborated with community platforms to establish a special reporting area and a delisting mechanism.
