Teacher Wang, Po-Chi was interviewed by UDN: Multiple Districts Received Threatening Letters: Fushan Botanical Garden Forced to Close
2023-05-19 03:52 United Daily/Our reporter/Wired report
Recently, various regions have received threatening letters one after another. Yesterday alone, it was reported that five scenic spots, including the Fushan Botanical Garden in Yilan County, Shoushan Zoo in Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MARINE BIOLOGY & AQUARIUM , as well as two national universities, have received threatening letters. The suspects not only claimed to have set off bombs, but also threatened to launch live broadcasts to kill people. Police in various jurisdictions have traced and found that the bomb letters come from overseas IPs. The Shoushan Zoo was closed for one day yesterday, and the Fukuyama Botanical Garden continued to be closed today due to receiving two threatening letters.
The Fukuyama Botanical Garden received a threatening email yesterday morning, with the suspect claiming to have placed six bombs inside the garden, and soon received a second one. The letter threatened to launch a live broadcast of tourists in the park, but the police searched the park twice but did not find any explosives. It is understood that the police have a major suspicion of locking in Zhang Haichuan, a graduate student from mainland China. In the past two years, through the VPN springboard, Japanese lawyers such as "Tang Zegui Yang" and "Ming Detective" have committed multiple crimes using overseas IPs.
Kaohsiung City Tourism Director KAO,MIN-LIN also received a threatening email, with the suspect extorting 10 million yuan and threatening to place 2 and 5 remote-controlled bombs at Shoushan Zoo and Lianchi Lake Dragon and Tiger Pagoda, respectively. Shoushan Zoo urgently responded by evacuating more than 750 tourists and announcing a one day closure. The police did not detect any abnormalities during the park's inspection.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-Mai requested the police to quickly track down the culprit and solve the case; Zoo director CHUANG,HSUAN-CHIH stated that tourists can apply for ticket refunds.
The Pingtung NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MARINE BIOLOGY & AQUARIUM, which has been in operation for 23 years, recently received bomb threats. The museum stated that all exhibition facilities are operating normally. To prevent any unforeseen circumstances, temporary security checkpoints have been set up at the entrance of the museum to check tourists' personal belongings, and night stays and on-site tour activities are normal. The Hengchun Police Station stated that the threatening letter IP comes from Europe and is being investigated by the Criminal Police Department.
Taichung National Museum of Natural Science also received a threatening letter the evening before yesterday, which mentioned that "9 remote control bombs have been installed". The police did not find any bombs during their search. The museum opened normally, and the police also strengthened their patrols. It was found that the IP location was overseas.
Not only the tourist attractions, but also the National Cheng Kung University received threatening letters yesterday afternoon. Although National Central University suspected it might be a prank, it still urgently evacuated students from the girls' dormitories, causing considerable panic. The Tainan police patrolled and found no abnormalities in the campus and girls' dormitories, and found that the intimidation emails were similar to the recent fake intimidation cases received across the country.

The frequent intimidation letters made the police exhausted. Wang, Po-Chi, an associate professor at the Department of Criminal Justice of Ming Chuan, stated that a common feature of recent threatening letters is their popularity. Suspects are highly likely to attract attention if these places are threatened, so they choose to be targeted in order to attract public attention and trigger social panic.
Wang, Po-Chi said that if the police investigate the intimidation letter from the same person, it is likely to be another prank, but if it is from different people, one should worry about whether it has triggered imitation effects.
