Student Life
Student Organizations
Ming Chuan
has over 100 student organizations of service, recreational,
athletic, academic and social natures. Each club receives
guidance from a faculty or staff advisor. Time is reserved
in the class schedule for weekly club meetings. Clubs are
encouraged to participate in competitions and festivals
sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the China Youth
Corps.
Student Activities
Students are
involved in school-wide activities on national and school
holidays. Traditional Chinese values such as filial piety
and patriotism are stressed through special meetings and
promotions. Humanities Festival is held in the late fall,
celebrating both traditional and modern culture. In the
spring, our school's anniversary is celebrated with a fair,
athletic and drill team competition.
A Student
Activities Center is in place on both campuses, providing
a clubs' office, lounge, computer terminals, recreation
rooms, performance centers and dance rooms.
Student government
is composed of a student body president and his/her cabinet.
The student government is advised by Student Affairs Office
staff in regard to programs and activities for the student
body, from the fall Freshmen Orientation which consists
of a series of activities conducted by upperclass(wo)men,
to the spring Graduation Party. Students are involved in
activities to promote school spirit and cooperation.
Students Counseling Service

and Counseling provides a wide range of services to help
students develop their maximum potential while pursuing
their educational and personal goals. Professionally-trained

preparation, building interview skills, getting into graduate
schools, obtaining government jobs and adjusting to the

Class Advisor System

students are guided in their personal and community social,
academic and recreational development. The main points emphasized
are order and respect, health, environment, patriotism,
productive use of leisure time, academic direction and cooperation.
Each class section of 60-70 students
is assigned its own class advisor. These advisors meet weekly
with the students, helping students understand school policies,
and counseling them in the areas listed above. Students
may bring difficulties they have encountered to the class
advisor for liaison or assistance.
Special guidance is provided for
International and Overseas Chinese students. Assistance
includes life-abroad survival skills, emergency support,
living arrangements, health insurance, tutoring, scholarships,
legal information and part-time jobs for those students
who are legally eligible.
