Graduate School of Management

Statement of Purpose

Program offers the managerial disciplines and skills required of management professionals, emphasizing the practical application of management theory, enabling students to develop the capability to think systematically in leading people and solving a wide range of managerial business problems. The focus is on training students to develop scientific thinking to face complex problems or to carry out composite research.

In addition to the program for full-time students, we have an executive MBA program for persons already employed in business or government.

Curriculum

MBA students can be divided into three groups: full-time graduate students, part-time graduate students and course-credit students.

 

Graduate School of International Business

Statement of Purpose

The Graduate Program in International Business strives to provide students with global management theories and practices. At the same time, it seeks to cultivate and produce outstanding international management personnel to meet the needs of the nation in industrial and international business development. In addition, the school is promoting collaboration with businesses and government institutions to provide them with professional advice and students with problem-solving experience.

Curriculum

The curriculum design emphasizes equally on both theoretical and practical knowledge as well as research method. However, the curriculum plan is divided into four categories: 1) International Finance Management, 2) International Marketing Management, 3) International Business Management Strategy and 4) General Courses. Students can choose professional courses according to their interests and specialty. In addition, the students' English oral skill is being trained as well to increase competitive ability in the global environment.

 

Graduate School of Finance

Statement of Purpose

In accordance with the R.O.C. government promotion of Taiwan as an Asian regional finance center, the courses in the Graduate Program of Finance are designed to train our MBA students with professional knowledge in finance, especially in financial products investment and innovation, financial institutions management, and corporate. The skills of pricing, hedging, developing new financial products and managing assets/liabilities are conveyed through our courses. In this way, students are trained to be excellent fund managers, investment consultants, bankers, and treasurers.

Curriculum

Courses in the graduate program are separated into three tracks:

  1. Financial product investment and innovation, heavily employing econometric methods, quantity analysis and statistical computer packages;
  2. Financial institution management, including fundamental bank theory, asset-liability management methods and practical experience shared by invited speakers;
  3. Corporate finance, comprising fundamental financial theories and applied analysis, financial statement analysis, financial risk management and business credit rating.

All students receive extensive foreign language training to strengthen their communication skills, especially to enhance their operations in international finance. Students are trained, as well, in the use of network information in finance, notably in using a network system to plan financial or electronic business.

 

Graduate School of Economics

Statement of Purpose

The founding principle of this department is "In stability, pursue development, in development, pursue improvement." The department aims to train personnel to meet the economic development plans of the nation regardless of whether students continue their education or go directly into the workforce. To facilitate this, students are equipped with basic theoretical concepts and statistical tools that will enhance their understanding of the important role economics plays in shaping lives.

Curriculum

The core courses for graduate program include Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics and English. Economic professional courses are categorized into three main sections which are: Regional Economics, Finance Economics, and General Economics. Graduate students are trained to use social methodologies to solve interesting sociological and business problems.


Graduate School of Risk Management and Statistical Information
(Risk Management Section)

Statement of Purpose

This program strives to develop students to become Risk Managers. In order to achieve this objective, the main points for training are Risk Finance and Risk Humanity and Policy. These emphases are the special features that distinguish this program from the traditional Insurance major. Our faculty members are all professionals with PhD degrees in the fields covering insurance, risk management and public policy.

Curriculum

The courses offered include risk management, financial risk management, insurance theory, social insurance, investment management, risk communication research, and so on. We also have specialized courses for risk management, for example, pension planning research and risk culture theory, etc.

 

Graduate School of Risk Management and Statistical Information
(Statistical Information Section)

Statement of Purpose

This program strives to train students to become professionals with the abilities of decision-making and analysis. Our aim is to train students to learn useful information and apply what they have learned to their future job. Therefore, the two main emphases in the program are software applications and statistical analysis applications.

Curriculum

Our course design aims to meet the needs of the career market. Besides software application and statistical method, graduate students are further challenged and trained as volunteer staff in the statistical counseling service: provided in order to answer and solve all kinds of statistical problems encountered by on-campus departments.

 

Department of Finance

Statement of Purpose

This department aims to produce students of integrity and honesty who will be qualified financial staff, well-trained in banking and financial management. In accordance with the R.O.C. government promotion of Taiwan as an Asian regional finance center, the courses in the Graduate Program of Finance are designed to train our MBA students with professional knowledge in finance, especially in financial products investment and innovation, financial institutions management, and corporate. Curriculum

The department prepares both students who plan to pursue further study with many theoretical courses, and those who prefer to develop their own careers with the International Trade Practicum, in which such practical courses as import/export operations, transportation and customs procedures, as well as professional English, are offered.

The Graduate Program in International Business strives to provide students with global management theories and practices and to cultivate and produce outstanding international management personnel to meet the needs of the nation in industrial and international business development. In addition, the school is promoting collaboration with businesses and government institutions to provide them with professional advice and students with problem-solving experience.

Curriculum

Courses of studies offered includes programs for regular students; specific programs tailored to the needs of technical institute graduates who wish to continue their studies in order to earn a bachelor's degree; and extension programs for those desiring to upgrade their skills in trade practice, foreign languages, computer software packages, etc.


Department of Accounting

Statement of Purpose

This department's goal is to train accountants who are competent financial administrators and well-rounded professionals, able to understand and promote not only financial products but also industrial goods. They will thus be able to make an invaluable contribution to decisions about company goals and direction. Accounting education in this department is based on six principles:

  1. theory matched with application,
  2. individual problem-solving practice,
  3. training in research capabilities,
  4. understanding the application of law to business and finance and
  5. emphasis on competency in foreign language and handling business information
  6. enhancement of computer skills, especially with computerized accounting system and all kinds of accounting system operations and applications

Curriculum

In additional to professional training courses, courses are offered in such areas management, finance, risk management, tax laws, computer usage and foreign languages.


Department of Risk Management and Insurance

Statement of Purpose

This department strives to train students in theory and application necessary to become Risk Managers and Insurance experts. In order to achieve this object, in addition to classroom training, students participate in cooperative programs with leading insurance companies and other financial institutions. The three main focuses of the department are:

  1. Insurance Management
  2. Risk Management and
  3. Investment.

Curriculum

Distinctive elements of this curriculum include specialized courses, for example, in loss and risk control, such as Industrial Safety and Sanitation. We also have specialized courses for risk managers, for example, Risk Management, Case Studies in Risk Management and Self-Insurance, etc. Other distinguished courses are Mainland China's Insurance System, Casualty Actuary and Insurance Operation.

 

Department of Business Administration

Statement of Purpose

This department strives to develop teaching and research techniques to meet the requirements of economic and social development in order to educate outstanding management personnel. In this way, and by providing professional consulting to domestic business and industry, to promote business development.

Curriculum

Five functional areas are emphasized: marketing management, production and operations management, human resource management, financial management and general business administration.


Department of Applied Statistics and Information Science

Statement of Purpose

This department aims to equip students to use the tools of statistical methodology, with stress on statistical computer packages. Students are grounded in a business administration background to give them perspective which will allow them to make valuable contributions to their organizations. Special emphasis is given to developing research ability and information management skills.

Curriculum

The framework of degree requirements emphasizes applied statistical methodologies. The course of study offered to students is planned to equip them with the ability to analyze information generated by business or industry sectors. Knowledge in using computer packages like SAS is also required.

 

Department of Economics

Statement of Purpose

Graduate School of Law

Statement of Purpose

The School of Law aims to offer advanced, theoretical and practical courses designed to emphasize core financial and economic knowledge education in addition to pure legal courses. With such emphasis, students will become more exacting lawyers, ready to meet the needs of complex, modern society. The Graduate Program provides an advanced legal education, with emphasis on the interactions of law and other disciplines, particularly finance and economics.

Curriculum

The Graduate Program is unique in providing Law and Economics as its core. Such curriculum may advance students' understanding of the effects of laws, and further enlighten them in implications on economics of legal reform through the systematic investigation of aspects of the legal system in a framework of economic analysis.

 

Department of Law

Statement of Purpose

The department aims to offer advanced, theoretical and practical courses designed to emphasize core financial and economic knowledge education in addition to pure legal courses. With such emphasis, students will become more exacting lawyers, ready to meet the needs of complex, modern society. The undergraduate program equips students with basic legal training. The Graduate Program provides an advanced legal education, with emphasis on the interactions of law and other disciplines, particularly finance and economics.

Curriculum

The curriculum covers advanced legal education from both theoretical and practical aspects and equips students with law-related financial, economic, political knowledge.


School of Communication

Department of Mass Communications

Statement of Purpose

This department aims to produce mass communications personnel trained in theory and skilled in application to meet the demands of the developing communications industry. Students are trained with state-of-the-art equipment in preparation for using the communication technology of any location in the world. Students are also involved in publication of a newspaper for the media industry, television programs for the campus and a monthly magazine. Students can choose professional courses according to their interests and abilities. One special characteristics of the school is to adopt an ¡§Integrated Mass Communication¡¨ mode for teaching undergraduates.

Curriculum

According to their own interests, students can choose one of five fields: journalism, public relations, radio, television, and advertising, as their emphasis for study.


Department of Radio and TV

Statement of Purpose

The ultimate goal of this department is to prepare students for creating their own learning environments and building their careers. Students are required to participate into the production of radio & TV programs with state-of-the-art equipment.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the department of Radio & TV is organized into four fields: radio, television, social sciences and other professional courses. All students must complete courses in all four fields.


Department of Journalism

Statement of Purpose

The department's mission is to provide rigorous and thorough training in both the practical and theoretical aspects of journalism and news gathering to enable students to excel in all aspects of today's constantly changing news gathering environment. Engaging in all forms of the journalistic craft, from print to on-line sources, the faculty are dedicated to providing students with the highest level of preparation and practical experience available.

Curriculum

Required classes in news writing, reporting, editing and communications theory as well as a broad selection of electives make up the curriculum.


Department of Advertising

Statement of Purpose

The main purpose of this department is to produce the advertising and public relations personnel trained in theory and practice to meet the demands of the developing advertising industry.

Curriculum

Advertising and public relations are emphases for study in this department.


School of Tourism

Graduate School of Tourism

Statement of Purpose

This program offers training in the managerial framework and the academic disciplines specific to professionals in Tourism, Hospitality Management and Leisure & Recreation. In order to increase the domestic pool of academicians in tourism, there is a strong focus on research methods and analysis. Concurrently, administration and planning in the domestic and international tourism industry will benefit from well-trained scholars as well.

Curriculum

Building on a core of research methods, analysis and current issues in Tourism, Hospitality Management and Leisure & Recreation, students can choose professional courses according to their interests. In order to broaden students' international views, foreign language courses such as English, Japanese, and French are also being emphasized.

 

Department of Tourism

Statement of Purpose

This program prepares students to pursue careers in hotels and restaurants, travel agencies, airlines, parks and recreation, and tourism administration. Therefore, it is aimed at the training of management professionals to meet the increasing demands of the hospitality and travel industry.

Curriculum

The curriculum features the following key subject areas: Accommodation Management, Food and Beverage Management, Travel Agency Operation & Management, Leisure & Recreation and Tourism administration. Given the increasing internationalism of the hospitality and travel industry, more emphasis is placed on foreign language training. In addition to classroom instruction, the program also offers opportunities for students to gain supervised work experience through work placements with reputable establishments.


Department of Leisure & Recreation Administration

Statement of Purpose

This program prepares students with competencies necessary to enter the recreational and leisure service industry at management level to serve as professional leaders, supervisors and administrators for public, private and commercial agencies.

Curriculum

The curriculum's unique features include teaching theory, with a strong emphasis on a "learn-by-doing" approach to career development. Academic work focuses on the latest management, marketing leadership, programming skills and computer applications in the recreation and leisure field. Our program also offers carefully guided internships and directed field experiences in professional environments enabling students to work effectively with people in a variety of settings.


Department of Hospitality Management

Statement of Purpose

This program prepares students to pursue careers in lodging, food service, meeting, conventions and expositions. The aim is to train the management professionals to meet the increasing demands of the hospitality and service industry.

Curriculum

The program includes hospitality-specific courses in addition to traditional business courses taught from a service-oriented management perspective. The curriculum features the following core areas: Management Operations, Food and Beverage Management, Marketing, Financial Management, Human Resources Management, Property-Asset Management, Communication, and Information Technology. Foreign language training and a 400-hour industry internship are also required.


School of Design

Graduate School of Design Management

Statement of Purpose

Program offers the managerial disciplines and skills required of design professionals, emphasizing the practical application of design management theory, enabling students to develop the capability to think systematically in leading people and solving a wide range of design management business problems. The focus is on training students to develop scientific thinking to face complex problems or to carry out composite research.

Curriculum

There are courses of study for three groups of students: full-time graduate students, part-time graduate students and course-credit students.


Graduate School of Media and Space Design

Statement of Purpose

This graduate program aims to emphasize both theory and application in digital media design with the background of design creativity and up-to-date media technology. Students will be given broad perspectives beneficial for research background. Several features of focus are:

  1. preparing space design professionals with virtual media sense
  2. preparing media design professionals with 3-D space concepts
  3. emphasizing research and application on the topics of Cyber Media Studies, Internet, and Design Studies
  4. developing perspective for digital media design.

Curriculum

The core courses in the program include structure design, virtual reality, city simulation and database establishment, space planning and design theory, digital architecture design, etc. An optional specialty will include courses in architecture/urban planning.


Department of Commercial Design

Statement of Purpose

This department is preparing high-quality design professionals with international design perspective and up-to-date technical ability. These designers will increase the impact that business and products have on the marketplace. Students in Commercial Design may choose one of two divisions: advertising or packaging. Regardless of division, all are given a background in design theory, methods and management. In addition, students are given ample access to the finest commercial film, photography and computer graphics studios available to college/university students in Taiwan.

Curriculum

We use strict oral interactive training as the base for training in artistic quality, which includes sketch, graphic design, illustration, and basic design. Also, this curriculum is supported by three years study of computer graphic design. As a result, we establish mature techniques for the expression of design. The business foundation is set in marketing, communication design, and advertising courses. This department trains designers to expand their creativity and imagination and convert them into reality for exhibition of their graduation projects.


Department of Product Design

Statement of Purpose

The objective of this department is to prepare high-quality product designers with a global outlook on products to be able to compete in the international market with a high degree of freedom and to inject fresh new blood into the increasingly independent, developing national product market. Students are encouraged to observe and interact with their surroundings in order to enhance creativity. Training has a consumer aesthetics focus, which requires a relaxed atmosphere for the incubation of ideas.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes general areas of commercial technology and design. Its aim is to train students in professional design strategy in order to develop consumer products, such as furniture, lighting, and home appliances.


Department of Architecture

Statement of Purpose

Emphasizes the imagination, experimentation, creativity and feasibility of architectural design, leading students toward progressive thinking, which integrates aesthetics, technology, humanity and the environment. Students will be trained to think from multiple perspectives, analyze and delve into the essence of subject matter as they strive for quality. Graduates will be empowered to launch a career in the architectural profession or for further study.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes the following components: Studio, Technology, Craft/Presentation, Architectural Theory and Computer-Aided Design.


Department of Digital Media Design

Statement of Purpose

This department is preparing high-quality digital media design professionals with international design perspective and up-to-date technical ability. These designers will increase the impact that business and products have on the marketplace. Student in Digital Media Design may choose one of two divisions: Computer Multimedia Design and Web Media Design. Regardless of division, all are given a background in Design Theory, Methods and Management. In addition, students are given ample access to the finest multimedia, computer graphics, digital photography, computer music and commercial film studios available to college/university students in Taiwan.

Curriculum

We use strict oral interactive training as the base for training in artistic quality, which includes sketch, color theory, basic design, music appreciation, computer and music, digital printing, computer animation, digital editing, illustration, graphic design and film production. Also, this curriculum is supported by two years study of computer graphic design and one year study of computer multimedia design. As a result, we establish mature techniques for the expression of design. The business foundation is set in web site design, marketing and digital media design courses. This department trains designers to expand their creativity and imagination and convert them into reality for exhibition of their graduation projects.


School of Applied Languages

Graduate School of Applied Chinese

Statement of Purpose

The Graduate Program cultivates excellent leaders and dedicated staff for the government and private organizations. Students are trained to comprehend traditional Chinese thought and brainstorm for trendy and creative ideas. Additionally, they are educated to be open-minded, thoughtful and ambitious, so their professional abilities and communication skills are advanced to meet the needs in the ever-changing world.

Curriculum

The core of the Graduate Program is reading and study of Chinese masterpieces. Students make full use of their knowledge acquisition to integrate humanity and technology. Practical courses, such as those in computer and English conversation, supplement these to expand students' vision and equip them with sufficient skills to cope with modern society.


Graduate School of Applied English

Statement of Purpose

The main focus of this graduate program is to prepare students for becoming teachers of English as a foreign language. Others may choose elective courses which prepare them, as well, to become professionals in mid-level management. The aim of this program is to equip students to balance the theory of the academic world and the practicality of the working world.

Curriculum

The curriculum is planned based on three categories: core courses (research method, thesis writing method, English teaching theory and method, second language acquisition, etc.), English teaching elective courses (linguistics, teaching listening/reading/composition, assessment, etc.), and professional English elective courses (translation theory and method, Business English, communication and negotiation, international relations, and international marketing).


Graduate School of Applied Japanese

Statement of Purpose

The Graduate Program explores the difficulties of learning Japanese as a foreign language, guides students in developing and evaluating teaching material, and examines teaching and evaluation methods in Japanese education. Students' language skills are continually groomed, taking them to a high-level of Japanese ability.

Curriculum

The Graduate Program curriculum focuses on a teaching track, covering the theories and practice of teaching Japanese, and for assessing progress in Japanese language acquisition.


Department of Applied Chinese Literature

Statement of Purpose

Our students will be trained in language applications, cultivated under linguistic theory, readied to meet the trends of the era and the needs of the society in order to integrate into the commerce or education job markets without any difficulty after they graduate. The Graduate Program cultivates excellent leaders and dedicated staff for the government and organizations. Students are trained to comprehend traditional Chinese thought and brainstorm for trendy and creative ideas. Additionally, they are educated to be open-minded, thoughtful and ambitious, so their professional abilities and communication skills are advanced to meet the needs in the ever-changing world.

Curriculum

Great emphasis is placed on the practical aspects of academics, using traditional classics as a foundation but channeling learning into new interpretation and creativity. Our curriculum is designed to cross the boundaries of the East and West, from Classics to Modern and transform passive learning into active learning. On top of the solid training in Chinese language and literature, the practical and applicable domains of the curriculum, computer and shorthand and file management skills, are stressed.

The core of the Graduate Program is reading and study of Chinese masterpieces. Students make full use of their acquisition to integrate humanity and technology. Practical courses, such as those in computer and English conversation, supplement these to expand students' vision and equip them with sufficient skills to cope with modern society.


Department of Applied English

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this department is to train students primarily to reach near-native proficiency in the English language and a good understanding of the culture of English-speaking countries. The secondary purpose is to train students in career-oriented fields, such as office management, interpretation, business management, English teaching, etc. so that they will be ready and fully equipped to face the competitive world of the new information age. At the same time this department seeks to equip students to balance the theory of the academic world and the practicality of the working world.

Curriculum

The curriculum focuses on basic English proficiency during the first two years and continues to reinforce this through final two years. In the third and fourth years, selected professional fields of interest are the focus. There are three general orientations offered for the latter period: business, English teaching and academic preparation. Students can freely choose one or a combination of two.


Department of Applied Japanese

Department Statement of Purpose

This department exists to train students in knowledge and use of Japanese that they may function successfully in commercial or academic positions. The Graduate Program explores the difficulties of learning and developing teaching material, and researches teaching and evaluation methods in Japanese education. Students continue to be trained in high-level Japanese ability.

Curriculum

There are two tracks in our department, one is the economic and trade track, the other is the teaching track. In the economic and trade track, in addition to Japanese, economics trade and management will be taught. In the teaching course, the theories and practice of teaching Japanese will be covered, training teachers of Japanese for secondary and supplemental schools. The Graduate Program focuses on the teaching track, covering the theories and practice of teaching Japanese.


School of Information Technology

Graduate School of Computer and Communications Engineering

Statement of Purpose

The graduate program aims to produce students with practiced and theoretical skills in communication and computer engineering, including communication technologies, WWW/Internet system, digital system, database management, multimedia, computer architecture, and information theory.

Curriculum

Courses are divided into three categories, including prerequisites, core courses, and elective courses. We expect to develop the students' independent-thinking, organization, analysis abilities, and global view. All the courses are designed based on both practical skills and theoretical applications. Students have to complete all the pre-courses and core courses before they give their thesis proposal.


Graduate School of Information Engineering

Statement of Purpose

This graduate program was founded with an emphasis on information technology, aiming to produce quality graduates with grounding in fundamental theories, hands-on skills and system concepts. The educational objectives of the department are to develop:

  1. basic information theory foundation
  2. information systems and technical skills ability
  3. information planning and integration ability
  4. oral presentation, written report, communication abilities, as well as foreign language ability.

Curriculum

Fundamental theories, system concepts and hands-on skills constitute the core of the curriculum. Besides basic courses, the courses are largely categorized into 8 potential research fields that include software development, hardware design, network telecommunication, multimedia process, calculating, game animation, biological calculating, and network application. In addition, students can apply to complete the teacher education curriculum to get a teacher's license.


Graduate School of Information Management

Statement of Purpose

This graduate program aims to produce graduates with practiced skills in modern information technology and business management. These young men and women will have the ability to establish information systems based on the target organization and environment, develop the latest information technology abilities for information systems, and set up information evaluation systems. In addition, each student will be prepared with problem-solving and research-conducting abilities and will be given English language training as well. Seminars and invited speeches will be provided frequently.

Curriculum

The student training is rigorous, emphasizing a spirit of teamwork, promoting an understanding of general organizational structure, its function and related management knowledge. The courses are categorized into 3 sections which contain pre-courses, core courses, and elective courses. These courses include system analysis and design, statistics, organization theory and management, network application, and database application. In order to enhance graduating students' language skills, English courses are provided each semester.


Department of Information Management

Statement of Purpose

This department aims to produce graduates with practiced skills in modern information technology and business management which can be utilized to enhance production, marketing, finance, accounting, human resource management and enterprise competition. These young men and women will have the ability to develop software systems which meet enterprise needs and use innovative information technology to enhance organizational performance.
Faculty members are working with masters' candidates on research in the following areas: Management Information Systems, Management and Decision-making, Multi-media Application, Computer-Assisted Instruction, Database Management Systems.

Curriculum

The student training is rigorous, emphasizing a spirit of teamwork, critical thinking, application and innovation. Visiting scholars are invited to the department to develop students' vision, deepen their thinking and establish a global view in each of them. Students may have hands-on experience as technical assistants in learning laboratories or as interns with local enterprises. Various intensive courses are also available during summer session. In order to enhance graduating students' language skills, English courses are provided each semester.


Department of Computer and Communications Engineering

Statement of Purpose

The department aims to produce graduates with practiced and theoretical skills in communication and computer engineering, including the communication technologies, the WWW/Internet system, digital system, database management, multimedia, computer architecture, and information theory.

Curriculum

The student training is rigorous, emphasizing a spirit of teamwork, critical thinking, application, and innovation. Visiting scholars are invited to the department to develop the students¡¥ vision, deepen their thinking and establish a global view in each of them. Students may have hands-on experience as technical assistants in the laboratories or as interns with local enterprises.


Department of Information Engineering

Statement of Purpose

This department was founded with an emphasis on information technology, aiming to produce quality graduates with grounding in fundamental theories, hands-on skills and system concepts. As information technology has been reshaping our society in many aspects, the department also expects to establish relationships with other disciplines. The educational objectives of the department are to develop:

  1. basic information theory foundation
  2. information systems and technical skills ability
  3. information planning and integration ability
  4. oral presentation, written report, communication abilities, as well as foreign language ability.

Curriculum

Fundamental theories, system concepts and hands-on skills constitute the core of the curriculum. The courses are largely categorized into basics, theory, languages and systems, database and network, and applications. Through rigorous training, students are expected to establish capabilities in reasoning, problem-solving and team-work. Students are welcome to join research projects, which are usually funded by grants from the government. The Department is building connections with the industry, so that graduates will also be equipped with the working knowledge of computer systems as interns with local enterprises.


Department of Information and Telecommunication

Statement of Purpose

The department aims to produce professionals with the combination of information, telecommunication, and electronic engineering foundations. Research and teaching objectives are mainly developed based on the understanding and developments in the following areas: Internet, multimedia telecommunication system, satellite, digital system, and ADSL. Our goals are to prepare the students with abilities focused on

  1. network system technologies and design
  2. technologies and design of telecommunication system
  3. individual mobile communication system
  4. telecommunication IC design
  5. digital communication integration and
  6. ADSL application.

Curriculum

The department aims to prepare students with practical and theoretical skills in telecommunication and electronic-related fields. The core professional courses include information technology, mass telecommunication media, and computer theory and application.


Department of Electronic Engineering

Statement of Purpose

We aim to prepare our students with the abilities of problem-solving, analysis, design, and production through doing research with the faculty. Through cooperation and shared teaching resources with Information Engineering, Computer and Communications Engineering Department, and Information and Telecommunication Department, students can develop their professional knowledge in information and electronics, as well as telecommunication.

Curriculum

The course planning of the department is based on five categories:

  1. VLSI digital /analog circuit design
  2. semiconductor micro/optoelectronics
  3. system engineering
  4. information systems
  5. foreign languages. Visiting scholars and international exchange programs are available within the department to develop the students' vision, deepen their thinking and establish a global view in each of them. Each year, the faculty will attend international conferences and present the papers to raise our research standard.

Graduate School of Education

Statement of Purpose

This program emphasizes the training of students in the principles, methodologies and analysis of research in education. The society and technology will continue to grow and change, so the education professional must continuously study emerging information and applications. To accomplish this, students are nurtured in educational understanding, broadened in professional knowledge, motivated to develop and nurture learning communities, and trained in application and development of multi-media and other technology.

Curriculum

Building on a common core of education philosophy, policy, psychology and research methodology, students can choose to concentrate in one of three areas: Educational Psychology and Counseling, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Educational Policy and School Administration


Graduate School of Public Affairs Management

Statement of Purpose

This program offers training in the managerial disciplines and administrative framework required of professionals in public administration. To reinforce the practical application of theory, students are required to participate in a directed internship between their two years of study. This is an executive MBA program for persons already employed in business or government.

Curriculum

Building on a common core of public policy, finance and information management, students can choose to concentrate in one of three domains: Public Administration and Local Government, Public Policy or Public Budgeting and Financial Management.


Teacher Education Program

Statement of Purpose

Through the training in this program, students will be expected to develop professional ethics, enhance learning abilities and teaching skills, and adopt lifelong learning. In addition, students will have the chance to develop teaching philosophy, matured characteristics, professional knowledge, and become well-prepared high school teachers. The students trained in this program will not only cultivate professional skills in their fields of study, but also cultivate their enthusiasm for teaching. Teacher education programs for both primary and kindergarten levels are being prepared to begin in the 2003-4 school year.

Curriculum

The education courses offered by the teacher education program focus on three main categories ¡V foundation courses, methodology courses, and practical training courses. Students begin with foundation courses, then focus on professional courses, subject-oriented teaching strategies, and after completing their coursework, complete one-year teaching practicum.

Department of Biotechnology

Statement of Purpose

Newly established at this university, this department places main emphasis on:

  1. biology information development
  2. food, environmental and medical biotechnology
  3. set up of advanced courses. We expect our students become professionals within the fields of biology information, biotechnology, biology medicine and agricultural biotechnology.

Department of Medical Information and Management

Statement of Purpose

The two focuses of the department are to enhance students' medical system management abilities and strengthen them in medical science information system applications. Students will be prepared with the combination of medical science and management knowledge. Students will be able to learn relevant computer software and Internet applications, develop medical systems management ability through internship and research, and be involved in medical research projects.

Curriculum

The courses provided include management, information and medical professional knowledge. Students will be able to combine information technology with hospital management to enhance operations efficiency.
